- First time offenders can usually resolve their case by entering a term of probation that includes community service, installation of an interlock device, attendance at drug and/or alcohol classes, loss of driving privileges for 6 months to one year, or any combination of these things.
- If you are facing a second conviction, you can lose your driver’s license for up to five years if the second offense takes place within five years of your first offense. For a third or subsequent offense the length of time for which you are unable to drive is longer. For instance, if you are looking at your third DUI charge, you can expect to lose your license for up to ten years if the third offense takes place within ten years of your second case.
- A fourth DUI case will result in losing your license permanently.
- If you are involved in an accident while drinking and driving that results in a death, you can also expect to have your license permanently taken from you.
