If you are arrested for DUI, have too many speeding tickets, have accumulated too many points on your driving record, or have otherwise acted in a way that leads to loss of your driver’s license, you need to act fast. Without a valid driver’s license, you are not supposed to drive a car. But as we all know, not being able to drive is not an option for most people. Our cars are how we get to work, take our kids to school, and run errands. However, if your driver’s license has been revoked, we cannot stress enough the need to take action to maintain at least a limited right to driver rather than take the wheel and drive without the legal authority to do so.

Two reasons to let an experienced criminal defense attorney step in and help you when you are looking at revocation of your driver’s license include:

  • If you let the matter go, and drive anyway, you can face more serious charges. Not only will you still have to answer for the original charge that caused you to lose your license, but you will also have to defend the charge of driving on a suspended or revoked license. This might rise to the level of a felony, and that is not a small matter.
  • If you take action and defend your right to drive, you might be granted at least a limited license. With a limited license you will still be able to go certain places, like work and school. A limited license will also permit you to go to doctor appointments, and to go visit with your attorney about your case.

No one knows more than we do how mobile society has become, and that if you are not able to get where you need to go the consequences can be harsh. Sometimes it might seem minor to let a traffic ticket go by just paying the fine, but if you do that too often you run the risk of losing your license. And, with a DUI arrest there is an automatic suspension of your right to drive, but you can ask for that decision to be reviewed. However, timelines are short, and if you don’t act timely you can lose the right to challenge your license suspension.
